The article deals with the two fundamental roles of leadership – emotional intellect of the instrumental and expressive leaders. It’s known that in understanding of the process of leadership, emotional intelligence plays an important role. Accordingly, the purpose of the study was to determine whether the emotional intellect affects the instrumental (business) and expressive (emotional) leadership or not.
The survey took place in the three highest educational institutions of Tbilisi. 572 students were interviewed in total. Moreno’s socio-metric method was used to reveal the leadership. In order to study the emotional intelligence, we have used S.Belyaev’s emotional intelligence test, which had been testified on Georgian population.
As a result of the empirical analysis of the received data, it became clear that the role differentiation of leadership takes place in student groups, this means that the roles of instrumental and expressive leaders in the group are performed by different individuals. It was also revealed that the expressive leader has higher level of emotional intelligence than the instrumental leader, but in the instrumental and expressive field of group-work, the emotional intelligence of the outsider is the lowest.
