Abstract

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) has infected around 3% of the total population on this planet. 350K people each year are diagnosed with HCV, with a total of 180 million people being currently infected. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that this disease is considered one of the biggest challenges to global healthcare. However, the notion that no human can defeat the virus is false. As we see from the statistics, roughly every 2 out of 10 Hepatitis C patients fully recover, while for the rest HCV is transformed as a chronic disease. The virus penetrates the liver cells, where it spreads out and causes inflammation of the liver tissue. HCV is also characterized to be capable of avoiding being detected by the immune system. Nonetheless, we still can proudly say that as of now, the second decade of the 21st century, Hepatitis C is the one and only infectious disease that can be fully treated.

The article covers the different forms and methods of collecting statistical data in the healthcare system. It also reviews the results of beneficiaries of diagnostics and monitoring of the Hepatitis C program conducted between 2016-2019 under the healthcare protection program by the Tbilisi Municipality City Hall.
